Desert Companions II

Trona-Wildrose Road

In December, in Death Valley, this photo captures the crux of recreation for me. The Mojave Desert rolling towards the snow-capped Panamint Range, the winter sun blanketing everything in a pellucid-white sheet, a fraction of home recreated in a classic camper van, and a drove of burros to be your desert companions. Behind the photos: As we pulled in, the burros were standing in front of the camper van, but as we stopped, they started walking towards us. We soon realized that they were approaching us for food when they didn’t get any from the folks in the camper van. They will implore you with their big eyes, but don’t give in, keep wildlife wild.
